Every blade
has its perfect edge.

From the kitchen workhorse to the heirloom carver, each blade is matched to its ideal sharpening method.

01 / Small
6 INCH

Small (6")

Paring knives, utility knives, and short kitchen blades. Quick to sharpen but precise work — small knives are used close to fingers, so the edge has to be exactly right.

£5 per knife
02 / Medium
8 INCH

Medium (8")

The classic chef's knife — the workhorse of any kitchen. Most blades fall in this bracket. Hand-finished on whetstones to a true working edge that holds.

£7 per knife
03 / Large
10 INCH

Large (10")

Slicers, carving knives, and large chef knives. Long edges demand consistent pressure and angle from heel to tip — slower work, but no shortcuts.

£9 per knife

// About

A craft passed down,
not picked up.

I'm Joseph — the one behind Acron. Sharpening has been in my family for as long as anyone can remember; I learned the basics watching it done at the kitchen table long before I ever stood at a stone myself. Years of practice later, it's the work I keep coming back to.

Acron is a one-person operation, run out of Kettering. Every blade that comes in is sharpened by hand — no production line, no shortcuts, no machines pretending to know what an edge wants. I take my time, I get it right, and I'll tell you honestly if a knife is or isn't worth the cost of bringing back.

If you're trusting me with something that matters — a tool you use every day, or something with a bit of history — I'll treat it like it deserves to be treated.

Honestly didn't expect much when I dropped off our old kitchen set — they'd been hacked at with a steel for years. Came back actually scary sharp. Took the tip off a tomato I forgot I was holding. Worth every penny.

I run a small catering setup from home so my knives take a battering. Booked the collection, he turned up exactly when he said he would, knives back the next morning. Fair price too — cheaper than driving them somewhere myself.

Brought him my grandad's old carving knife. The handle's a bit knackered but the blade meant a lot. He talked me through what he was going to do before taking it, sent a photo of the edge afterwards. Genuinely nice bloke and the knife is sharper than it's probably ever been.

// Common Questions

Things people ask.

How long does sharpening take?
Standard turnaround is between 2 and 24 hours from collection — most jobs come back the same day or the next. Need it faster? Add the Express option at checkout for a £10 flat surcharge and I'll prioritise your blades.
What areas do you cover for collection?
Free collection across Kettering town. Surrounding towns and villages — Barton Seagrave, Burton Latimer, Desborough, Rothwell, Geddington, and Broughton — included as standard. Wider areas like Corby and Wellingborough carry a small £3 surcharge. Outside this zone, drop-off is recommended.
How do you transport the knives safely?
Each blade is individually sheathed in a magnetic guard, wrapped, and carried in a hard case. Insured during transit.
Can you fix chipped or damaged blades?
Minor chips, light surface scratches, and edge wear are all sorted as part of the standard service — no extra charge. Heavier damage like deep gouges, bent tips, broken blades, or full re-profiling isn't something I'm taking on yet. If you're unsure, mention it in the notes when booking and I'll let you know honestly before collection.
How do I pay?
Cash or bank transfer on return. No upfront payment required when booking.
Why are some days unavailable?
Acron is a one-person operation, so I only run collections and drop-offs on days I'm available. Highlighted days on the calendar are confirmed open.
